In an original work of imagination unleashed by the magic of children’s books, five-time Tony Award nominee Elizabeth Swados presents Jewish Books Cooking.
Based on Jewish-themed children’s books selected by Ms. Swados herself, the production peppers theatrical interpretations of each story with newly composed music and arrangements. Applying a Jewish storytelling twist to her renowned Books Cook! - earning rave reviews during its Atlantic Theater Company run in 2010 – Ms. Swados aims the new production to young children and families who treasure the power of the book to link generations and free minds, young and old, to wander and imagine. Production made possible with the generous support of the Covenant Foundation.
Among the popular books featured in the production are Baxter, the Pig Who Wanted to be Kosher by Laurel Snyder; Mr. Mentch by The Mamas; and Beautiful Yetta – The Yiddish Chicken by Daniel Pinkwater.
